August 2008
Salams
MSAers! I pray this e-mail finds everyone has figured out their class schedules
and are getting ready to go back to school!
Alhamdulilah, its been a busy MSA Summer. MSA National officers met for a weekend to
plan for the upcoming year. The
following week Br. Tauqeer, the new East Zone Rep USA,
and myself attended the annual Young Muslim (YM) conference, held parallel to
the annual ICNA Convention in Hartford,
CT. It was very exciting to meet with MSAers who
are also involved in YM Brothers and Sisters.
The same weekend, Sr. Nura, the Central Zone Rep, and Sr. Atifa, COMPASS
trainer attended the MSA South Central Conference, held parallel to the ISNA
Regional Conference was held in Houston,
TX. Masha'Allah both the local committees worked
extremely hard to plan the conference with a unique program.
In addition
to attending governmental meetings, this summer MSA National also produced a
history document that was submitted to US House and Senate committees. The document outlined the history of MSA
National as well as clarified that the organization does not accept oversees
funding.
Insha'Allah
this week the new Executive Committee will be attending the 45th
Annual MSA National Continental Conference in Columbus Ohio. From a dynamic program to exciting events for
MSA leaders, this conference promises to be a great way to prepare for Ramadan.
At the
conference, MSA members will be able to give back to the community and
volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Ronald McDonald House; both
activities are organized by the Community Service Task Force (CSTF). To commemorate the 45th
Anniversary of MSA National, the history committee created a three dimensional
history display. Also, the Media and
Communication Task Force (MCTF) will be distributing the latest edition of the
MSA Link, featuring a guide to summer programs for MSA students and how to
organize Iftars on campus. Lastly,
insha'Allah at the Continental Conference we will announce the first ever
winners of the M. Naziruddin Ali Memorial Award for Excellence, an MSA National
Scholarship.
As we begin
the school year, I pray Allah swt will give us all the ability to make the most
of Ramadan on campus and use the opportunity to reach out to the broader campus
community.
Wassalams!
