02/14/08 - MSA National Offers Condolences to families of the victims of the Northern Illinois University Shooting
MSA National denounces the tragic shooting at Northern Illinois University on February 14th, 2008. We would like to share our deepest condolences and sympathies with the families of the five victims and sixteen wounded. When a student is harmed in an academic setting, all students are harmed. We at MSA National would like to applaud the tireless efforts of University Police and other authorities of Dekalb, IL in containing the situation to their best abilities. We hope that during this difficult time of grieving, students across the nation will stand in solidarity with the victims of this tragedy. Let us move forward without forgetting the precious blessings of safety and security which we must constantly defend. The increased incidents of student shootings is a troubling matter that we hope will be remedied in part by better attention to student mental health and stability. Mental health programs at universities across the nation are often times threatened by budget cuts. MSA National hopes that administration officials at universities will work to better protect such vital programs and help keep students safe.
