05/03/09 - Imam Siraj Day

Assalamu Alaykum!

I hope that this email finds you in the best of health and spirits.

As many of you know, Imam Siraj Wahhaj, a pillar of the American Muslim Community, was recently diagnosed with cancer. A man who has given his life to the Muslim community, his hospital bills for his treatment reach over $150,000. Despite several fundraising efforts, the Imam still needs $75,000 to cover his treatment expenses.

As college students, we struggle to raise a few hundred dollars to support our own MSAs. While fundraising is sometimes difficult, here is a man who raised millions of dollars for our communities, built masjids, traveled to our campuses and MSA conferences, and gave his time so we could benefit and be inspired by the message of Allah swt.

Therefore we are asking MSAs to designate Friday, May 8th as Imam Siraj Day. Specifically, after the Jummah prayer on campus or local masjid, we ask MSAers to make a short call for donations to help Imam Siraj. A few hundred dollars from hundreds of MSAs can make a world of difference. If 150 MSAs raise $500, we can cover all of Imam Siraj's remaining costs!

The Imam Siraj Day packet will offer you a step-by-step guide of how your MSA chapter can successfully run an Imam Siraj Day on your local campus. To obtain a packet, please e-mail .

Our national campaign cannot be a success without our wonderful local MSA representatives. This is an excellent outreach opportunity for the American Muslim community and will show that American Muslim college students around the nation are going to help promote the teachings of compassion as we support our leaders.

If you have further questions or concerns, contact Sr. Yasmin Husain, MSA National Community Service Task Force Chair at .

We hope that you will join us in making Imam Siraj Day a success!
